How we charge
Our professional fees
- Fees are based on staff time, including advice, client and third-party meetings, documents, correspondence, calls, research, hearing preparation, and travel and court waiting time.
- Fees exclude disbursements: counsel's fees, court fees, and report or expert costs.
- Clients receive interim bills every three months, or on request.

Fixed fee arrangements
- A fixed fee covers reviewing documents, representation, and related correspondence and calls.
- If the matter becomes more complex and needs further oral representation, further costs will be discussed.
- If instructions are withdrawn before completion, costs are calculated on a non-fixed fee basis.

Non-fixed fee arrangements
Hourly rates apply unless a different arrangement is agreed in writing. Rates are reviewed periodically, and revised rates apply from the review date.

Routine incoming and outgoing letters and calls are charged in units of 1/10 of an hour.

Disbursements
Clients authorise the firm to use its discretion in instructing counsel and experts and to incur disbursements (counsel's fees, court fees, report costs) on their behalf.
Funding
Fee agreed
- Legal aid may be available elsewhere, but the firm has no legal aid franchise, so matters are privately funded and the client pays all fees and disbursements.
- A fixed fee or hourly rate is agreed before work starts.
- Fees exclude VAT and disbursements.
- Clients who cannot pay in full at instruction may pay half the agreed fee upfront, with the balance in monthly instalments.
- The agreed fee covers all work up to a written decision for the relevant stage of the application or appeal.
- No refund is issued if a client withdraws after a fixed fee has been agreed.
